SMARTTEK FARM CONTROL SYSTEM

1. Introduction

  • The demand for food is constantly increasing due to the growing global population and continuous economic development. At the same time, the agricultural sector is facing enormous challenges such as climate change, dwindling natural resources, and pressure to improve production efficiency. To address these challenges, Smart Farm – or smart farming – has emerged as an effective and promising solution, offering much promise for a sustainable and efficient agricultural future.
  • Farm SmartTek control system It's not just an automated control system, but a comprehensive solution for managing and operating modern farms. Built on multiple technological platforms, SmartTek is a combination of information technology, IoT, automation control. With features such as environmental data collection, farm management, and operational control via website and mobile application, it creates a smart, efficient, and convenient farming environment.

2. Function

  • Environmental data collection: SmartTek uses sensors to monitor and record environmental data such as temperature, humidity, light, wind, etc. It stores data and detailed information about the farming environment.
  • Farm Management and Control: Users can remotely manage and operate all farm information and activities via website and mobile application. Some of the system's management functions include managing production records, planting schedules, seasons, equipment operation, recorded sensor values, and many other features.

3. System components

  • Website and Server: Where data and information are stored, and operations and controls of the farm are managed.

+ Database: MongoDB is used as the database for the website.

+ Server API: Use Node.js as the server to design the API with the Express library.

The website was designed using Nextjs.

 

  • Mobile application: Operates, controls, manages information, configures system equipment, records images, and manages crop pests. The application uses the Flutter Framework to run on Android phones.
  • Control server:

+ Stores data for control, real-time information and status of devices, sensors, etc. in the system.

Python is the primary language for running programs on the IoT server (mini PC) located at the farm.

  • Network infrastructure: Network connections link the components and devices within the system, facilitating data transmission and reception via Modbus RTU over a physical RS485 connection. RS485 can connect up to 32 endpoints (expandable with intermediate devices) and has a data transmission range of up to 1.2 km (most effective within 800 m). The internet is an indispensable component, acting as a bridge for user communication via mobile applications and websites with the control server.
  • Sensors: Using F to record environmental information. The system uses sensors with Modbus RTU communication standard; choosing sensors with low error rates will result in higher reliability.
  • Control station (device control cabinet): Designed based on processor functionality with an ESP32_S3 microprocessor communicating with UART/TTL to RS485 converter modules. The control cabinet receives on/off signals for devices from the control server. The number of control outputs can reach several hundred devices by easily connecting multiple relay control modules.
